In April 2015, President Obama launched the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) to expand opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs and innovative civil society activists in Latin America and the Caribbean. YLAI helps address the opportunity gap for young people, especially women, by empowering entrepreneurs and civil society leaders with the training, tools, networks, and resources they need to transform their societies and contribute more fully to economic development and prosperity, security, human rights, and good governance in the Western Hemisphere.
In October 2016 Tishon was honored by becoming a member of the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Professional Fellows Program. YLAI Fellows are between the ages of 21 and 35 and have proven experience with an entrepreneurial venture. Competition for the YLAI Fellowship was extremely impressive; more than 3,800 applications were received and carefully evaluated for only 250 fellowship spots. Tishon was selected out of 3,800 applicants as one of the extraordinary business and social entrepreneurs.
Tishon traveled to the US for six weeks in October and November attending YLAI conferences in Dallas, Atlanta and Washington, DC. One of the speakers was Secretary of State John Kerry and Richard Branson who spoke personally with Tishon.
